Vital Group Announces New Charity Committee

5th January 2024

This year, Vital Group have announced a fantastic new initiative, the Charity Committee!

What is the committee?

As a business we take pride in our commitment to our customers, but also to the wider community wherever possible. To further this cause, we are excited to launch the formation of our very first Charity Committee!

The committee will play a vital role in the planning and executing of various initiatives to support our chosen charity throughout the year.

Which charity will we be supporting?

To decide our chosen charity, we asked our team to put forward some suggestions of charities we’d like to support. We then put this forward to our charity committee who voted for the one that they would like to support.

We’re pleased to announce that our chosen charity for the year is The Motor Neurone Disease Association, specifically our local Wirral branch!

What is MND (Motor Neurone Disease)?

Motor Neurone Disease affects the nerves known as motor neurones. These nerves are found in the brain and spinal cord, and they help tell your muscles what to do.

With motor neurone disease, known as MND, messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste, which can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink, and breathe. Some people also get changes to their thinking and behaviour, but the disease affects everyone differently.

MND is life-shortening and there is currently no cure. Although the disease will progress, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life.

MND affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time. There is a 1 in 300 risk of getting MND across a lifetime. It can affect adults of any age, but is more likely to affect people over 50.

What does MND Association do?

The MND Association is a charity focused on improving access to care, research and campaigning for people affected by motor neurone disease.

How will Vital Group be supporting MND Association?

Our committee of 12 employees will be meeting monthly to discuss objectives, plan charity events and brainstorm ways in which can further support The Motor Neurone Disease Association!

Our first meeting’s agenda

Our first meeting is next Friday (12th January) with a very exciting agenda!

The Wirral MND Group Leader, Debbie, will be visiting our National Operations Centre to meet with our committee face-to-face. Alongside Debbie, will also be a local lady living with MND. They will be  coming in to talk to us about what MND is, providing the committee with an opportunity to ask questions and see how we can further support this fantastic charity.

We’re very excited to now have an initiative which gives back to our community, specifically The Motor Neurone Disease Association throughout 2024. The committee are very excited to get planning, so follow along for more updates on what we have planned over the year!
